It’s been almost 10 years since we last attended Anime Boston, and Conventions have a knack for gaining more and more attendance every year. Last year alone, AB 2016 had a over 27,000 anime fans registered.
Approximately a 3 and a half to a 4 hour drive from New York, this part of Boston has plenty to offer visitors even if you weren’t just there for the anime convention. But if you are thinking of attending this year, Anime Boston 2017 is happening on March 31 to April 2 and is held at the Hynes Convention Center and Sheraton Boston Hotel.
Take a look at some of the Special Industry guests they have lined up that we’re gearing up to see:
Puffy AmiYumi – Duo vocalists Ami Onuki and Yumi Yoshimura has reached enormous success with their pop/rock songs becoming one of the most famous jpop music icons in the world having sold a total of 20 million CDs to date. Along with sold out tours and relentless commercial endorsements, the two women are also loved for their effortlessly cool and nonchalant fashion styles.
“We are incredibly proud to able to host musical superstars, Puffy AmiYumi. For many of us, Puffy AmiYumi was our introduction to Japanese rock music through their appearances on American television. Now, Anime Boston can show them how much they mean to us!” said Victor Lee, Convention Chairman.
Naokatsu Tsuda – Japanese animation director at David Production Inc. After making his debut as a chief director for “Inu x Boku Secret Service” (2012), Tsuda is now best known as the director of the TV animation “Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure” series (2012-2016). Jojo series has been popular for over 30 years, ever since its original manga by Hirohiko Araki was first issued in Shueisha’s Shukan Shonen Jump comic magazine. Tsuda succeeded creating the perfect visualization of the unique “Jojo World” that even the critical core fans admire.
“We’re honored to have Tsuda-san as a guest of Anime Boston. JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure is one of our favorites, and we very are excited about this rare chance to talk to the director!” said Victor Lee, Convention Chairman.
Michelle Ruff & Johnny Yong Bosch – Two grizzled veterans in the anime voice industry, Michelle and Johnny have pretty much done it all. Michelle has given her voice for so many prominent female main characters such as Rukia from BLEACH, Yoko from Gurren Lagan, and in games she played Katherine from Catherine. And same goes for Johnny who many fans still remember from Power Rangers and the unfortunately cancelled web-series AnimeTV. There is literally too many roles they’ve played to list them all here, but somebody actually managed to elsewhere in what seems to be a page that take forever to scroll all the way to the bottom.
