The number of foreign travelers to Japan has recovered to the levels before the country was hit by the devastating earthquake and nuclear crisis in March 2011.

Japan National Tourism Organization says about 781,000 tourists and business travelers visited Japan last month.

That's almost the same level as in April 2010 and up nearly 164 percent from April last year - immediately after the disaster.

The number of travelers to Japan from Thailand, India, Indonesia and Vietnam hit a record high for the month of April. A recovery is yet to be seen with travelers from the United States and Europe.

Japan Tourism Agency Commissioner Norifumi Idee says foreign travelers in general are coming back to Japan.

He also says the agency will lure foreign travelers with attractive tour plans including a visit to Tokyo's new landmark, Tokyo Skytree.
