With all the negative press Hollywood anime movie adaptations are getting because of America’s white-washing traditions of selective choice casting of white actors to play non-white characters, many people may still not know about these niche performance productions about their favorite show happening on live theater stages.
Japan for example has a ton of these in Stage Musical productions format themed to popular anime. One such is the Live Spectacle Naruto stage musical: The Akatsuki Investigation. A new run that will feature a different story than the previous two stage musical productions.
The Live Spectacle Naruto Musical performance first ran in March to May 2015 in Japan’s major cities which gained enough traction to also hold international performances in Macau, Malaysia, and Singapore. The second run of the musical was renewed in July-August 2016.
The previous musical performances covered the original Naruto manga’s story line from the beginning to 27th volume.
The Live Spectacle Naruto stage musical: The Akatsuki Investigation will run at the AiiA 2.5 Theater Tokyo from May 19 to June 4 and at Osaka’s Mielparque Hall on June 16-22, and then again at the AiiA 2.5 Theater Tokyo from July 29-August 6.
