When a few years ago, the riots sparked by protesters against Police Brutality issues with the city of Baltimore threatened the safety of the thousands of Otaku nerds attending Otakon, this year it’s the racist, genocide-propaganda spewing neo-nazi boneheads of the “Unite the Right” that are holding a rally nearby the Convention Center in Washington DC.

The OTAKON staff was quick to point this out in their public forum to give a heads up to everyone planning to attend OTAKON 2018 that the white supremacist rally is being held about 2 miles away from the Walter E. Convention Center. However, closer inspection by patron attendees of OTAKON has reported the actual rally is being held at the Lafayette Sq. which is less than a mile away.

After the violence that happened last year when protesters and counter-protesters (white-supremacists and anti-fascists) in Charlottesville clashed that resulted in tragedy, the Convention public-relation staff is facing a balancing act of reassuring everyone not to worry while at the same time telling everyone to take serious measures of safety.

The city has supposedly given extra assurance to the heads of OTAKON that the Police security presence during the rally will be far better prepared than what had happened in Charlottesville. And being that this the country’s capital, Washington DC will mostly have far more national guard stationed at the ready, regardless of what happens on the weekend.
